MANITOULIN—The UCCM Anishnaabe Police Services is asking all residents and community members to refrain from lighting grass fires on their property this season.

“Even a ‘controlled burn’ can quickly become unpredictable, putting homes, elders and neighbours in immediate danger,” a release states. 

“These unnecessary fires put an immense strain on our first responders and pull vital resources away from other life-saving emergencies. Let’s work together to protect our land and ensure our emergency services are available for those who need them most. Help us keep our communities safe, please avoid lighting grass fires.”
