Editorial
This Manitoulin Expositor edition honors remarkable locals, focusing on the passings and global impacts of Order of Canada recipient Diane Sims and philanthropic artist Ivan Wheale.
Within the pages of the Manitoulin Expositor each week this paper chronicles the stories of many of the remarkable individuals who call our blessed Island home. This week is, of course, no different. In fact, we have had the pleasure and sad duty to report on the passing of one of the most influential people to ever grace our office, Order of Canada recipient Diane Sims and the final exhibition of Ivan Wheale works at Perivale Gallery.
Ms. Sims has written (at least) five books, countless articles for journals and other publications and been a tireless advocate for multiple sclerosis, ovarian cancer and accessibility, most recently she was named National Honorary Champion for Bridge C-14, a network of peer-to-peer connections and community supports through all stages of medical assistance in dying (MAiD).
Ms. Sims passed a few short days ago after enduring a life of incredible pain and medical challenges that would have sunk any less buoyant and determined individual. She made a mark that transcends the globe.
