Private Jacob Baxter of the 16th Infantry Battalion, Canadian Corps, lies buried in a mass grave at the Lichfield Crater Cemetery at Vimy Ridge. Mr. Baxter was born in Little Current, but moved to British Columbia with his mother Alonza (nee McVey) and then later to Alberta where he worked as a chauffeur. Pte. Baxter鈥檚 name is engraved on the memorial at Lichfield and (although misspelled as Banter) on the cenotaph in Lethbridge, Alberta, but is missing from any of the memorials on Manitoulin, including his hometown (where brother George鈥檚 name is on the Little Current cenotaph).
