Girl’s death ruled second degree murder; two teens arrested and charged

M’CHIGEENG—The family of a 17-year-old girl, members of Sheshegwaning 91��˵�� and the Manitoulin Island community are in mourning after the tragic homicide of Bethany Shinos in M’Chigeeng 91��˵�� on Monday, August 17. Two individuals have been charged with second-degree murder.

The homicide victim, 17-year-old Bethany Shinos, “was awesome,” stated a relative of the young girl. “She was just getting ready to go off to college at Georgian College in the next couple of weeks.”

“I have no idea (what the circumstances are relating to the incident). “The family is trying to piece things together,” said the relative. “It is so unfortunate and so unnecessary,” she said, noting the family is reeling from the tragedy.
