Divers explored the 19th-century Jane Miller shipwreck near Wiarton. Built in 1879, the steamer vanished in an 1881 storm before being discovered intact in 2017.
GEORGIAN BAY鈥擠ivers on Tuesday of last week dived the Jane Miller shipwreck located near Wiarton in Georgian Bay.
Dan Lindsay (who despite several attempts by The Expositor could not be contacted for comment prior to this week鈥檚 press deadline), explained in a Facebook post, 鈥淎 memorable dive today on the wreck of the Jane Miller in the clear Georgian Bay water, thanks to Geoff Hogan and Dirty Adventures. The Jane Miller was a 19th century Great Lakes steamer, built in 1879 to serve the busy but isolated ports along Lake Huron and Georgian Bay. She carried freight, mail and passengers between Meaford, Owen Sound, Wiarton, Manitoulin Island and the small lakeshore settlements that relied on these vessels as lifelines.鈥
