SOUTH BAYMOUTH鈥擯re-dawn rain and thunderstorms gave way to sunshine and cool lake winds prior to the start of South Baymouth鈥檚 3rd Annual Chi-Cheemaun Salute, and good weather continued for the day.

The event recognizes the ferry鈥檚 importance as an economic driver and transportation link to and from Manitoulin, and the weather helped make the day a great success for all participating and attending.  The event, which has now become an annual summer festivity, is organized and sponsored by the South Baymouth Community Development Association (SBCDA), a volunteer group dedicated to community life in South Baymouth and the Township of Tehkummah.

The event highlight featured a Canadian Coast Guard Search and Rescue Vessel, the M/V Cape Edensaw from Tobermory, and while having to suddenly depart to an emergency response call which was subsequently cancelled, the vessel and crew returned to the South Baymouth Marina and hosted attending event visitors throughout the day informing them of Coast Guard鈥檚 role in marine safety and rescue, and showing the highlights of a specially designed SAR (search and rescue) vessel.  A steady stream of visitors toured the vessel with positive comments for the experience and acknowledgment of the hospitality of Coast Guard鈥檚 Commanding Officer and Crew.

Canadian Coast Guard SAR Vessel 鈥淐ape Edensaw鈥 from Tobermory approaches a berth at the South Bay Mouth Marina, and hosted Chi-Cheemaun Salute Day visitors on August 8th for tours of the vessel and information about Coast Guard. The availability for the public to take an onboard vessel tour was well attended throughout the day.
