Ahead of Canada Day, a long-overdue philanthropic campaign to restore the Prime Minister鈥檚 dilapidated residence at 24 Sussex is praised as a timely reflection of national pride.

That鈥檚 a phrase that gets bandied about a lot in the halls of power. Whether it is in increasing the renumeration of our political leaders or maintaining our nation鈥檚 public buildings鈥攏aysayers will always posit that now isn鈥檛 a good time. Frankly, it鈥檚 just never a good time.
The recently released news that Prime Minister Mark Carney has opened requests for proposals for refurbishment/renovation/remediation of the prime minister鈥檚 official residence at 24 Sussex Drive in Ottawa brings forward an altogether different phrase鈥斺漧ong past due.鈥
