The annual Manitoulin Kite Festival will take place June 14, hosted by the local Lions Club and fire department. The family event features free kites, food, face painting, and truck tours.

鈥淲e are hosting the event along with the members of the Gore Bay Fire Department,鈥 said Eric Ruediger, president of the Gore Bay Western Manitoulin Lions Club. 鈥淭he firefighters will be giving away kites to all the kids, and we will be giving out hotdogs to all those on hand.鈥
Mike Addison, Gore Bay Fire Chief told The Expositor, 鈥淭he event used to be put on by the Western Manitoulin Community Garden group. After a few years of running the event, they decided not to hold it last year, and the Lions stepped up and said they would take on hosting the event.鈥
