The Manitoulin Health Centre's Little Current dialysis unit launched a weekly bingo game to entertain patients during their four-hour treatments. Staff used a service award gift card to purchase the game.
LITTLE CURRENT—The dialysis room at the Manitoulin Health Centre’s Little Current site is a bustling place as the patients come in and get hooked up to the machines that help their kidneys clean their blood. Once the pumps are connected and the machines begin their filtering spin, there isn’t a lot to do but sit and wait—for four hours.
Televisions are available for diversion and of course there is always reading to help the hours go by, but it can all get a little old. But nothing daunts the dialysis crew when it comes to figuring out how to keep their charges entertained.
The day The Expositor popped up for a visit, two friends were patients in the unit. Dialysis is more common than one might believe. The nursing staff were happy to explain what was afoot.
