Please drive safely and watch out for students, school buses, and crossing guards as the school year begins on Manitoulin!
The yellow buses will soon be rolling again across Manitoulin. Crossing guards will have returned to their corners in communities all over Ontario because, for families across the province, the end of summer means one thing above all鈥攕chool is back in session.
It also means something for every driver on the road, whether you have a child in the classroom or not: it鈥檚 time to slow down and pay more attention.
Every September, the same pattern repeats itself. Streets that were quiet in July suddenly fill with children walking to school, waiting at bus stops and crossing at corners with the unpredictable energy of youth. Parents juggling drop-off lines arrive distracted and in a hurry. Drivers who spent the summer on a different commute forget, for a moment, that a school zone now lies along their route. It is precisely in that moment of forgetting when tragedy can strike the unwary.
