June 24, 1946 – March 27, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Gail Griffin (nee Muldoon), who passed away peacefully on Friday, March 27th, 2026, at the Maison McCulloch Hospice surrounded by her loving family, just shy of her 80th birthday. Gail was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be greatly missed by her husband Jim Griffin of 58 years. Loving mother of Cara Soehner (Dave), Tracey Chapman (Joe) and Mike Griffin (Wendy). Cherished grandmother of James and Abby Soehner, Maggie and Katie Chapman and Paige and Drew Griffin. Gail was born in Sudbury to parents Albert and Rita Muldoon, both predeceased. She will be missed by her siblings Glad Sylvestri (John predeceased), Greg Muldoon (Pat), Gary Muldoon predeceased (Karen), Donna Krizanc (Michael), Brian Muldoon, and Bert Muldoon predeceased (Sharon).

Gail will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Gail was the matriarch of our family, the strength behind us all. She was a strong willed, independent person who fiercely loved her family. She dedicated her life to her family, creating a home filled with warmth, love and tradition. Family gatherings and holidays were important to Gail and she fostered the meaning of family in her own legendary fashion. She was always welcoming and made sure everyone was well fed and had comfy, cool beds to sleep in. Gail was a wonderful cook and her kitchen and home always smelled of home-cooked meals that brought such comfort to many. Gail raised her three children at home and as they grew older, she spent time working at various places. Gail loved babies and children so it was appropriate that she retired from her working days with the Sudbury District Catholic School Board as an elementary school secretary. From there, she moved to Manitoulin Island where more family memories and family gatherings took place. She wasn’t a great swimmer but she enjoyed boating on the Merry Gale and appreciated the beautiful view of Manitowaning Bay from her home. You would often find her on her deck talking with friends and family or simply enjoying the beauty of the water. Her greatest pride, joy and passion were her six grandchildren who will miss her dearly. Gail was an avid reader, held education in high regard, loved talking on the phone, followed American politics, watched The Young and the Restless daily without fail and enjoyed a good laugh. Gail was actively involved in her community where she volunteered at the Manitoulin Centennial Manor and was a member of the St. Bernard’s Parish Women’s Group.

She will be remembered by her love for her family, her smiling Irish eyes, her infectious laughter and her unique sayings. “The jig is NOT up, Gail.” Your memory will live on in all of us. Gail’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the supportive staff at Maison McCulloch Hospice. They lovingly provided care, compassion and a home away from home during her last days. In addition, the spiritual support and guidance extended by Father Gerry from St. Bernard’s Parish brought her peace and comfort during her short battle with cancer. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Gail’s memory made to the Maison McCulloch Hospice or St. Bernard’s Church in Little Current. Please join the family for a memorial visitation to be held on Saturday, April 11 from 10:00-11:00 am at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church (19 Hayward St., Little Current).

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am following the visitation. Donations to the Maison McCulloch Hospice or St. Bernard’s Catholic Church would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home. For donations or messages of condolence www.lougheedfuneralhomes.com.
