Proud father of Tina (John), Nina (Dan), Dina (Steven), Justin, Amanda, Nathen and William (Leala). Devoted Papa of his girls Justice, Niibin, Angelina, Naanookshkaasii and Piper-Rhea and anxiously awaiting his newest grandchild on the way and he could not keep it a secret. “Papa” to many others who held a special place in his heart. Godfather of Tyrone Shawana and Bradley Shawana and special “Dad” to Storm Shawana. Son of Nelson Shawana baa and Rebecca Trudeau baa. Son-in-law of Bill Hobbs baa and Brenda Hobbs. Godson of Joe Alex Shawana baa and Nancy Wemigwans baa. Brother of James, Richard, Joanna, Rose, Regina, Janet, Veronica, Kimberly, Peter (Jennifer), Paul (Darlene), Loretta (Barry), Crystal and Amanda. Brother-in-law of Cindy, Alton, Laura-Lynn (Joey), Caryn (Shayne), Shana (Ray) and Shara (Brian). Best Friend and brother by choice to Darren McGregor and Teresa McGregor. Special “brother” to Shannon Gonawabi, Bruce McGregor, Justin Urqhart, Andrew Commanda and so many others. Uncle to so many nieces and nephews, both by blood and by choice. A founding member of the Black Bull Moose Singers, he loved travelling with his drum family and sharing songs and stories. He influenced and taught many young men on how to hold themselves around the grandfather drum. He loved to work with children and youth and sharing his knowledge with them. Family and friends gathered at the Wikwemikong Arena on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 from 4 pm. Funeral service was held at Holy Cross Mission Church on Friday, March 13, 2026 at 11am.
