It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Gerard at the Little Current Hospital on Sunday, March 1, 2026 at the age of 66 years. Gerard was predeceased by his parents Valentine and Lucy Ida Pitawanakwat. Gerard is survived by his devoted and loving wife Elizabeth Pitawanakwat (nee Manitowabi). Loving father of Jessica, Gabriella, Megan and Samuel. Proud Papa to his grandchildren who will forever cherish his memory: Emery, Rylan, Shayla Rae, Asia, Xavier, Rayna, Elias and Valentine. Dear brother of Cecilia, Dennis, Shirley, Douglas, Yvonne, Rita, Lawrence, Anita (predeceased), Hubert (predeceased) and special sister-in-law Linda Dokum. Gerard will also be forever remembered by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and will be dearly missed by his close and long-time friends Joseph Manitowabi, Eugene Peltier, Paul Fox, Byron Kagige, Darren Kagige, Ricky Osawanamicki (predeceased), Ronnie Lewis (predeceased), Mike Wabegijig (predeceased) and so many more. Gerard was a proud veteran of the Royal Canadian Dragoons and served for eight years as a tank gunner and was stationed in Lahr, Germany. Gerard was also a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local 2486. He was a very skilled carpenter by trade, and it was his passion. He took great pride in his work. His construction projects were made with meticulous attention to detail, and he had an unwavering work ethic. His hands were rough from hard work, but his heart was gentle, always willing to lend a hand to someone in need. Gerard was an extraordinary person who brightened the hearts of people with his wild sense of humour. He brought laughter and warmth to everyone. He touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed. Family and friends gathered. Visitation: Wikwemikong Cultural Centre (Arena) on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at 1 pm. Funeral Service was at Holy Cross Mission, Wikwemikong on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at 11 am. Cremation followed.
