Thirty-eight artists are honoring the late Ivan Wheale with an exhibit at Gore Bay’s Studio 6. The tribute, featuring small works and heartfelt notes, remains on display until July 17.
GORE BAY—Some people in our lives have an impact that changes how we interpret the world around us. For many of the artists on Manitoulin Island one of those incredibly impactful people was Ivan Wheale whose style of art was self-styled “Whealism.”
As a tribute to Mr. Wheale, and his lifelong passion for encouraging artists of all ages, some 38 artists came together to exhibit small works illustrating his impact on their lives and art. Those works are on display at Studio 6 in the Gore Bay Harbour Centre until July 17.
Co-organizers Jon Butler of Willisville, Helen Siksek of Kagawong and Cliff Jewell of Little Current banded the artists from Manitoulin and Sudbury to provide the tribute to their beloved mentor.
