Kagawong's postmaster is retiring June 19. Unable to find a replacement with a suitable venue, council is exploring community mailboxes. Residents must pick up mail in Gore Bay in the interim.
KAGAWONG鈥擶ith the impending retirement of the current postmaster of the Canada Post office in Kagawong, Billings council will be discussing a recommendation from the corporation regarding the installation of community mailboxes in the township. A suggested location was next to the post office museum in the township office parking lot.
鈥淚 had a meeting with representatives from Canada Post,鈥 said Billings Mayor Bryan Barker, last week. 鈥淭hey advised that the current postmaster, Michael Hunt, is retiring as of June 19.鈥
Canada Post advertised for the new postmaster position, both internally and externally as well as distributing over 6,000 posters to Island community Canada Post customers. 鈥淐anada Post indicated the new postmaster has to have their own facility to house the post office and, in most cases, out of their own homes. The post office also has to have washrooms for public use and be accessible,鈥 said Mayor Barker.
