The Kagawong post office is transitioning to community mailboxes following the retirement of postmaster Michael Hunt after 25 years of service, as Canada Post was unable to find a replacement candidate. Billings council approved placing the new mailboxes near the post office museum and gristmill.
KAGAWONG鈥擝illings council has given its support to Canada Post Corporation to use township property to set up community mailboxes in the township.
鈥淎s much as I am going to miss going to the current post office and seeing and talking to people who are also visiting it every day to get the mail, it is better to have a community mailbox in the hamlet rather than having to go to Gore Bay (post office) to get the mail,鈥 said Councillor Dave Hillyard at a council meeting last week.
鈥淚 don鈥檛 think we have any choice, and there is no point to not allowing (Canada Post) to use township property at a suitable location,鈥 said Councillor Ian Anderson.
