Manitoulin Island well represented at Service Decorations at Queen’s Park

The recipients of awards in this January’s induction by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario Elizabeth Dowdeswell gather for a photo in the Lieutenant Governor’s Suite at Queen’s Park. This year’s recipients included a large contingent from Manitoulin Island, including Neil Debassige and Alan Corbiere of M’Chigeeng for their work on the revitalization of Anishinaabemowin, Josephine Mandamin and Autumn Peltier of Wiikwemkoong for their efforts in bringing awareness to and protection of water and Dr. Dawn Harvard of Wiikwemkoong for her work on the basic human rights of Indigenous women and lobbying for the creation of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and supporting families through the MMIWG inquiry process.
