Manitoulin Health Centre is successfully recruiting healthcare workers, but a severe housing shortage is halting onboarding. MHC is urging the community to provide long-term rentals for new staff.
MANITOULIN鈥擬anitoulin Health Centre (MHC) is experiencing success in recruiting healthcare professionals to the Island, but a growing lack of available and affordable housing is becoming a significant barrier to bringing these much-needed workers into the community. MHC is requesting help in finding accommodations for these healthcare workers on Manitoulin.
Recently recruitment efforts have successfully attracted local graduates returning home to work, healthcare professionals from across Ontario and nurses seeking to build their careers on Manitoulin Island. However, many candidates are now facing challenges securing suitable long-term accommodations.
鈥淲e are thrilled to see recruitment momentum building,鈥 said Paula Fields, chief executive officer (CEO) and president of MHC. 鈥淲e have Island graduates wanting to come home, provincial candidates interested in relocating and educated nurses eager to join our healthcare systems. Unfortunately, housing availability is becoming one of the biggest obstacles to successfully onboarding these professionals.鈥
