GOAT ISLAND—Council for the Town of Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands has been hearing from its tax base as many citizens want answers as to when the Neverlanding will be leaving the waters near the long-gone ‘silver bridge.’ It has been at anchor there since June.

The Neverlanding is a vessel that has been anchored in the Goat Island channel, really a bay, on the northeast side of Goat Island. The vessel is easily seen by motorists passing by the bay on Highway 6. It consists of a structure sat upon a platform that sits atop plastic barrels that act as floats.

At its September 3 council meeting, staff was directed via a motion to contact the owner of the Neverlanding to find out whether the vessel had been abandoned and if not, what its plans were. If the owner could not be reached, staff was directed to contact the Coast Guard and Ontario Provincial Police.
