Billings and Wiikwemkoong have fatal fires in 3 days
KAGAWONG—Two structural fires in three days on Manitoulin—in Wiikwemkoong and Billings, respectively—have claimed two lives.
On September 1, at 2 am, crews responded to a fire at a apartment complex in Wiikwemkoong. Attempts were make to rescue tenant Lisa Neelin-Kimewon from her unit but she succumbed to her injuries.
Ms. Neelin-Kimewon was 58 years old. Friends and family gathered in Rabbit Island on September 7 for a visitation with the funeral following on September 8.
Ms. Neelin-Kimewon was a child of the Sixties Scoop, finding her Wiikwemkoong biological family in her 20s, her obituary notes. She was affectionately known as ‘Lisa Bear.’
