MANITOULIN鈥擜s fibre internet access continues to expand across Northern Ontario, conversations about online safety are becoming increasingly important alongside discussions about connectivity and speed. Representatives from NIVO Fibre will be speaking with residents during this year鈥檚 community safety event about the growing importance of protecting personal information online and recognizing common cyber threats that increasingly target everyday Canadians.
According to Robert Peace, Director of Community Engagement for NIVO, many people still misunderstand what cybersecurity threats actually look like.
鈥淧eople picture some sophisticated hacker sitting in a dark room somewhere,鈥 said Mr. Peace. 鈥淚n reality, most of the threats targeting people in Northern Ontario are simple confidence scams designed to create panic and get someone to react quickly before they have time to think.鈥
