M’CHIGEENG—When Mary Dantouze began reaching out to her friends and colleagues seeking a way to help support the people of Collins 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ (Namaygoosisagagun 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½) she was reportedly at a loss, until the concept of incorporating her cycling group M’Chigeeng Road Warriors in a fundraiser came to her.

At first, she thought they might be able to raise a few hundred dollars, maybe even a thousand. By the time the cyclists, and added walkers, had arrived back at their starting point at the Ojibwe Cultural Foundation the tally had surpassed $23,000—and when all of the incoming funds from local organizations had been collated, that number had reached the amazing total of $40,166.

M’Chigeeng Chief Glen Hare and Anishinaabek Nation Grand Council Chief Linda Debassige were joined by M’Chigeeng Road Warriors Steven Debassige, Bonnie Bebamash and Dora Bebamash gathered recently at the Ojibwe Cultural Foundation for an official cheque presentation. Grand Council Chief Debassige will be taking the funds to the people of Namaygoosisagagun 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½.
