The Mindemoya Youth Softball tournament runs this weekend, hosting a maxed-out 40 teams and 530 players. The volunteer-led event brings 1,300 visitors to the area, boosting the local community.
MINDEMOYA鈥擳he local community is set to host 530 youth ball players as the annual Mindemoya Youth Softball tournament is taking place this weekend.
鈥淭o be honest, never in my wildest dreams did I think the response to this tournament would be so positive,鈥 stated tournament founder Greg Lockeyer. After the first annual Youth Co-ed 3-pitch softball tournament took place in 2018, 鈥渨e had people asking how they could enter a team the next year, volunteers coming forward to help and local sponsors looking to give a hand.鈥
At the time many Island communities had short-term spring ball programs for their youth, but nothing major was available outside each community, or even off-Island in communities such as Espanola or along the North Shore.
