McMaster student Alexandra Wilson-Zegil of Gore Bay participated in the 2026 Model Senate in Ottawa, where she spoke in the Red Chamber on health equity and healthcare challenges in rural communities.
OTTAWA—Alexandra Wilson-Zegil, of Gore Bay, who is a student at McMaster University in Hamilton had the recent opportunity to live the world of a senator. She also had the opportunity to speak in the senate on healthcare in remote or rural areas.
“I participated in Model Senate 2026 run by Sengate,” Ms. Wilson-Zegil told The Expositor. “One of my classmates had told me about the program, in which students need apply and those chosen basically take over the senate chamber and proceedings and students do what a sitting senator would.”
“I really didn’t expect to be chosen for the program; it is a very competitive process,” she said, noting the program is open to all those people between the ages of 18-24 in university/college.
