WIIKWMKOONG—There were more than a few people putting down their tobacco in Wiikwemkoong this past Friday along with a fervent prayer that the rain would hold off. Those prayers were answered.

Despite other regions of Manitoulin Island, including nearby Little Current, Aundeck Omni Kaning and M’Chigeeng, experiencing torrential downpours accompanied by lightning Wiikwemkoong’s Thunderbird Park was spared but for the merest of sprinkles. Good thing too, as the venue hosted the annual Wiikwemkoong Arts and Music Festival (WAMF).

The event was ably co-hosted by Kickapoo-Seminole multi-award-winning artistic jack-of-all-trades Adrian Harjo and Wiikwemkoong’s own Tracy Recollet.
