MANITOWANING鈥擮n Tuesday evening, May 5, Assiginack Public School had a lot going on. Kindergarten orientation was taking place, volunteer recognition was happening, and most importantly, its 3rd Annual Art Show was up and on display, bringing droves of students and parents into the school.

As well as visual arts, which were perfectly arranged and displayed, poetry was everywhere in the hallways of the school. 鈥淎pril was Poetry Month,鈥 Principal Julie Balen explained. She worked with the students during the month, giving prompts to those who needed a little inspiration.

鈥淲hat stood out most throughout the evening was the pride and care students brought to their creations,鈥 Ms. Balen said. 鈥淭he art show reflected not only creativity, but also persistence, risk-taking and a real willingness to express themselves in thoughtful and meaningful ways.鈥 This was especially apparent in the 鈥楻ecycled Art鈥 projects, in which the students first learned about artist Brian Jungen, who famously adapts objects to new uses in his artistic practice. But every artistic piece on display showed daring and imagination.
