AUNDECK OMNI KANING鈥擯owwow organizer Mandy McGraw said she and her team are excited to invite people to the 34th Annual Aundeck Omni Kaning jiingtamok 鈥楽homodah Ashkodeh Biinjinah鈥 or 鈥楩eeding the Fire Within.鈥

鈥淲e are grateful for the support of chief and council and for all of the volunteers who help to make our event such a great success each year,鈥 said Ms. McGraw.

The AOK powwow is the first of the much-anticipated Manitoulin Island summer season and is always a well-attended event on the powwow trail.

Ms. McGraw said that the host drum, Black Lodge Singers, will be a strong draw along with co-host drum Bear Creek and invited drums Crazy Spirit, Snake Island, Young Kingbird and Indian Road.

鈥淲e will have some great specials, including Woodland, both male and female and a handdurm contest.

Master of ceremonies for the event is Mista Wasis, who along with head veteran Gabe Bennett and arena director David Trudeau will keep the action flowing.

Head dancers are Tristen Dreaver and Kelsey Borgford, while head youth dancers will be Daniel Morningstar and Kyra Ramsdin.

While it is very close to the event, vendors can contact Ms. McGraw at 705-282-4809 or by email at [email protected].

A drug and alcohol-free event, the AOK powwow takes place overlooking the shores of the North Channel just five minutes west of Little Current on Highway 540. There will be plenty of signs directing visitors down Lake Road to the powwow grounds.
