October 7, 1941 – March 15, 2026
In loving memory of a dear brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather Calvin David McGaughey, born and raised in Little Current to parents Cecil and Inez (Burnett) McGaughey (both predeceased) on October 7, 1941. Father of Michael (Nathalie) McGaughey, Karen (Luc) McGaughey, Debbie (Darren) Bailey and Louanne (Arron) (Darren) Collinson and their Mother Dianne McGaughey (Eaton). Calvin is also survived by his partner Bonnie (Aelick) and her children Mark (April) Aelick, Curtis (Gloria) Aelick and Drew (predeceased) Aelick. Calvin is cherished and loved by his grandchildren Christopher (Jessica), Ricky (Sonia), Wyatt (Zoe), Mikaila (Jake), Hayley, Marcus, Trevor, Scarlett (Paiden) and Natasha. He was Poppa to Cole (Brooke), Landon, Sawyer, Hudson, Violet, Griffin and Roslyn. Great-grandpa to Ayda, Stevy, Axel, Brantley, Hunter, Andy, Henry, Emberleigh and one on the way in April 2026, as well as great-poppa to Myles and Bennett. Calvin was the oldest boy of six. He is predeceased by older sisters Lillian (Harold) Pleuna and Donna (Ed) Trusz. Calvin is survived by his only brother Lyman (Mazie Orr) McGaughey and baby sister Lyla McGaughey (Ron McCrea). He is also predeceased by his sister Irene (Lindsey) Taylor. Dad will always be remembered for his coffee shop visits, his driving around town with one foot always on the brake. Anyone who attended the Assiginack Public School or Little Current Public School will remember Calvin well, from chasing them down on Hallows Eve so they wouldn’t soap the windows to being there when needed as the head custodian to clean up the mess. He was a farmer, well known to many on the Island. He took over his father’s farm after he became ill, farming up into his 70s when he decided it was time to give it up. But did he really? Of course not, the cows might have been gone but he still did his regular daily visits to feed the chickens and the horses. Dad, know you will be missed and are loved. Who will shuffle down the street and crack a smart comment with a smirk and quick visit? Visitation and arrangements will be announced at a later date.
So, here’s to you, our funny friend,
A farmer’s farewell, but not the end,
In fields of green, and skies so blue,
We’ll laugh, remembering the life of you.
