February 28, 1931 – November 1, 2025

Donald Gordon Barnes went peacefully to his Lord in his 95th year in Parksville B.C. Don is survived by his first and only love of over 72 years, June Patricia (Frain). Father of Craig (Jane), Lesley (Douglas), David (Dena) and Cameron (Ann). Grandfather to Tyson (Mina), Bronwyn (Marshall), Kaitlyn (Nathan), Mark, Andrew, Daniel (Carly), Brent (Cindy), Brady (Emily), Nicholas (Melissa), Alex (Joanna), Rebecca (Adam), Benjamin, Marshall (Amanda) and Dawson (Nicole). Revered by many, many great grandchildren.

Don was born in Winnipeg Manitoba where he met and married June. At age 37 in 1968 he moved his young family to Ontario. He and June with the family discovered Manitoulin Island shortly thereafter, spending nearly 40 years enjoying Island life. From social to business, Don lived a very full and always active life with varying careers and many entrepreneurial pursuits. While a professor at Cambrian College, he and June decided to enter the tourism industry (at one time operating two resorts consecutively) and it became a whole family endeavour. For nearly two decades it proved to be an enriching experience, not only for the family unit – but the benefits of the involvement and participation followed each member into adulthood.

During the same period he also developed a successful public accounting practice. He will be fondly remembered for his intense interest in people and ability to develop relationships wherever he went with diplomacy, his welcoming embrace, ever-positive attitude and sense of humour, love for family, his wise counsel and his relationship to his Lord. He will be missed. He enjoyed family and all good company, hunting, fishing, camping, travel and games. Cremation has taken place with a memorial service to take place June 12, 2026 at Knox Presbyterian Church in Parksville on Vancouver Island.
