Gore Bay veteran honoured with Quilt of Valour

Retired Royal Canadian Navy Chief Petty Officer Robert Rees was presented with a handmade Quilt of Valour in Gore Bay by Judy Millard, honoring his 25 years of service.

GORE BAY—In an emotional ceremony, Chief Petty Officer (CPO) Robert Rees, who served 25 years with the Royal Canadian Navy, was presented with a Quilt of Valour by local area presenter Judy Millard of Elliot Lake on Sunday, September 14 in the family home in Gore Bay.

“I am here to present the quilt,” said Ms. Millard, “but I feel is my duty to let people know about Quilts of Valour, because from the point of view of a quilter who makes these quilts, I don’t make them for them to sit in my cupboard, I make them to go to the people who should be getting them, and we can’t present somebody with a quilt of we don’t know that that person ought to get it.”

To that end, she said, “We need people to know about this to nominate those individuals who ought to be receiving.”
