Manitoulin’s Kohyn Eshkawkogan (Ottawa 67’s) scores 1G-2A for Canada at U18 Worlds; strong play despite quarterfinal exit.
M’CHIGEENG—While Canada’s quest for a third straight world under-18 men’s hockey championship ended in the quarterfinals, Manitoulin Island’s Kohyn Eshkawkogan, a defenceman with the Ottawa 67’s of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) had a strong tournament.
After a three win-one loss preliminary round, Canada dropped a 4-2 decision and quarterfinal loss to Sweden on Wednesday of last week, knocking them out of the tournament. Sweden had finished runner-up to Canada last year.
Kohyn had a strong tournament playing a regular shift and notching a goal and two assists in the tournament. “After joining the team late, Kohyn had a fantastic tournament,” said his father Kevin. “Among the seven defencemen Canada dressed in all five games, he was fifth in time on ice and fourth in scoring. He was also tied for second among all Canadian players in plus/minus with a plus five rating.”
