LITTLE CURRENT鈥擜nyone who passed over the Manitoulin Swing Bridge at Little Current the past week would notice a drill rig conducting work at the bridge and area as part of the detailed design and environmental assessment process for the replacement of the current bridge.

鈥淪tantec Consulting Limited are having drilling done as part of the design element work,鈥 said Dave Williamson, CAO of the Town of Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands (NEMI). 鈥淪tantec is doing the detailed design for the new bridge, and the drilling is being done to determine the structure of the ground assessment of the lakebed and the bottom of the lake for the foundations of the bridge.鈥

鈥淭hey will also be drilling on land just east of the information centre booth at the parking lot (in the area) where the new roadway and landing will be,鈥 said Mr. Williamson. He noted as well, 鈥渢hey have also put down markers on land identifying the new bridge and the roadway coming in.鈥
