SPRING BAY—Manitoulin Island and Georgian Bay lost one of its most prolific and talented artistic ambassadors this past year, as Ivan Wheale set out on his final journey. This coming Saturday, May 16, at 2 pm, Perivale Gallery will present ‘Through Ivan’s Eyes: A Northern Vision Lives On’ a celebration of the life and art of Mr. Wheale. This will be the last opportunity to secure one of the acclaimed artist’s works at his official gallery—and will be an opportunity to purchase a work from Mr. Wheale’s personal collection.

Mr. Wheale may not be personally present at the opening of the exhibition, but his spirit will definitely be there in the form of his last painting and the palette and easel upon which he created the works that encapsulated “Wealism,” the term he applied to his own enhanced renderings in realistic style.

“Ivan snuck out of the hospital and his deathbed to finish this last painting,” said Perivale Gallery owner Shannon McMullan. “We are so honoured to be able to have it here on display.”
