LITTLE CURRENT鈥擫ine dancing has been around for quite a while, though the precise date and time cannot be nailed down. Be that as it may, line dancing has been increasing in popularity here on Manitoulin Island and Lori Mastelko could be part of the reason. She did put the NEMI Line Dancers on the map with the International Line dance flashmob earlier in the month, and just recently, she organized an entire day dedicated to line dancing with the Line Dancing Workshop at the NEMI Rec Centre.

鈥淔orty participants from all areas of the Island (Tehkummah, Sheguiandah, Manitowaning, Bay Estates, Little Current, Spring Bay, Mindemoya), Birch Island, Espanola, Copper Cliff and Sudbury took part,鈥 Ms. Mastelko said. In her opening remarks, she explained 鈥淟ast September I attended the Nickel City Line Dancing Classic workshop in Sudbury, along with a few other Island dancers. On my drive home on Sunday, my wheels started turning, I had such a wonderful experience, I wanted to offer a similar experience locally.鈥

Ms. Mastelko began planning right a way, though she admits she went about it in a backwards fashion. 鈥淚 secured two instructors and a DJ before I even had a venue,鈥 she said. 鈥淭hings might have been trickier, had I not had a DJ in my back pocket. Thank you to my son, Bryce for providing the music today, and for always supporting your momma.鈥
