Debajehmujig Storytellers honored outgoing GM Lynda Trudeau with a farewell tea in Manitowaning. After saving the theatre company from closure, she passes the reins to Ashley Manitowabi.
MANITOWANING—It has been quite a run for outgoing Debajehmujig Storytellers general manager Lynda Trudeau, who has turned over the reins to Ashley Manitowabi. On April 28 a luncheon and come and go tea were held at the Creation Centre in Manitowaning to celebrate her many accomplishments and to thank her for her tireless efforts on behalf of the Indigenous theatre company.
Ms. Trudeau’s experiences with Debaj may have begun as a summer student, then later as board member, before taking on the role of general manager at a time when the company was in dire straits—with most of its company laid off and rumours swirling that it was over. Now, several years later, she is leaving the organization on solid ground.
Ms. Trudeau was presented with a painting by Manitoulin artist Duncan Pheasant, ‘The Fox Retires.’ The story accompanying the piece reflects Ms. Trudeau’s experience.
