BRANTFORD鈥擬arian Jacko has made it her life鈥檚 mission to work and volunteer to help fill needs in her community, and her inspiration to carry out this work comes from her parents.

鈥淚 do the work not for accolades, but because there is the need in the community,鈥 said Ms. Jacko. 鈥淲hen I was growing up in Wiikwemkoong my dad was chief of the community and my mom was a nurse at the Wikwemikong Nursing Home. I can remember as a child I spent a lot of time in the nursing home, including writing letters to the residents.鈥

鈥淭he way I was raised by my parents brought forward wanting to work in public service and help the community,鈥 said Ms. Jacko, who is to receive an Honorary Doctor of Laws (LLD) from York University for being an influential changemaker during the university鈥檚 2026 spring convocation.
