MICHAELS BAY鈥擳he Michael鈥檚 Bay Historical Society (MBHS) is working toward a couple of new unveilings at its annual picnic celebration this summer.

鈥淲e will be holding our annual picnic celebrations on our property in August,鈥 said Jane Tilston, secretary of MBHS after the group鈥檚 annual meeting. She explained Bernard Andrews, of Mindemoya, had pitched the idea to MBHS earlier this winter to erect a memorial with a plaque on it to honour all those locals and visitors who have drowned in and around Manitoulin Island waters. He outlined the reason for his proposal and said he would get Manitoulin stone, make sure a proper permanent base is under the stone, and have a plaque installed for the memorial. MBHS will select a location on its property to have the memorial erected.

鈥淚t will include a Manitoulin rock, with a base under it, and a simple memorial message. There are too many people who have drowned to name all of them, so there will be a simple message in memory of all those who have passed,鈥 said Ms. Tilston. 鈥淲e are hoping to have this erected by our annual picnic tour of the property in August. There has been lots of interest in this.鈥
