NORTHEAST TOWN—The McLean’s Mountain Fund was created as part of a road-use agreement between the Town of Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands (NEMI) and Northland Power during the planning phase of the McLean’s Mountain Wind Farm aimed at providing long-term, ongoing support and benefit to the social fabric of the community.

The McLean’s Mountain Wind Farm is a 60 MW partnership between the United Chiefs and Councils of Mnidoo Mnising (each holding 50 percent) and was established in 2014 with a 20-year agreement with the Independent Electricity System Operator.

Each year, a committee made up of three members, one from Northland and two members of NEMI council (this term being Mayor Al MacNevin and Councillor George Williamson) gather to evaluate the submissions for funding from the $10,000 pot.
