Old Mill seeks endorsement for Governor General award
The Old Mill Heritage Centre received Billings council's endorsement to apply for a Governor General鈥檚 history award, leveraging momentum from its 2025 centennial celebrations.

KAGAWONG鈥擳he Old Mill Heritage Centre received support from Billings township council recently in its application for a Governor General鈥檚 history award.
鈥淲e have already received a letter of support from council,鈥 said Rick Nelson, curator of the Old Mill Heritage Centre. 鈥淲e as a museum board have been thinking that with the Old Mill having turned 100 in 2025 that it should be worth celebrating with an award. We want the government general history folks to be aware of it.鈥
In a letter to Billings Mayor Bryan Barker and council March 26, Mr. Nelson explained, 鈥淎 few years back the museum came close to winning the Governor General鈥檚 history award for excellence in community programming. Back in 2023 we made the short list for our 鈥楬istory Day in Kagawong鈥 presentation of the Empress of Ireland disaster.鈥
