The OPP Golden Helmets Precision Motorcycle Team performed in Wiikwemkoong on June 4. The event honored fallen officers, including Manitoulin’s Marc Hovingh, drawing local students and residents.

WIIKWEMKOONG—The rumble of Harley Davidson engines echoed down Wikwemikong Way on the afternoon of June 4 as the Ontario Provincial Police Golden Helmets Precision Motorcycle Team brought their celebrated show to Manitoulin Island a performance dedicated to the memory of fallen officers, including one of the Island’s own.

“This is the first time we’ve ever had the Golden Helmets in our 91��˵��,” said Ogimaa Tim Ominika, “this is a beautiful day. I really want to commend our chief of police and all of our police officers for allowing OPP and the Golden Helmet Brigade to come down and showcase and share this with our children and the communities.”

“This is what you call true community policing, impacting all of the service in which our officers do,” continued the Wiikwemkoong chief. “It’s not only about enforcement, it’s about communications, and this is a perfect example today in what they are showing for us. You can ask nothing much better than a beautiful sunshine, a little breeze and all of our children participating and witnessing this wonderful event.”
