GORE BAY鈥擶ith more people moving back to unincorporated townships in Western Manitoulin for the summer, it鈥檚 expected there will be more violations involving people parking recreational vehicles and portable storage containers without permits. This has led to a suggestion by a Manitoulin Planning Board (MPB) member that a meeting be held involving residents of Robinson and Dawson townships to discuss a permit system.

Theresa Carlisle, secretary-treasurer of the MPB informed the board at a recent meeting, 鈥渨e were asked to provide information on how many outstanding violations there are from 2025-2026 site visits.鈥 She explained there were 10 outstanding violations from the site visits. With the number of emails, letters, phone calls, visits, and applicable maps/sketches produced, it is estimated that approximately 50.3 hours has been spent to date by MPB staff to try and resolve the violations (seven of which have now been resolved). Staff had been directed to proceed with the laying of information process as per the Provincial Offences Act for three violations of non-conformity to the zoning bylaw for the townships of Robinson and Dawson due to no follow-ups being received from the landowners.
