NIAGARA—The Island has often punched well above its weight in STEM competitions down through the years, and this year is proving no exception, as teams from Manitoulin Secondary School and Wiikwemkoong High School travelled to Niagara to take part in the qualifying Niagara College District Event that ran from April 10 to 12.
“Manitoulin Metal had another amazing event at Niagara College,” shared team mentor Yana Bauer. “Our team and robot competed consistently and worked through every challenge that came along. They ended the event in the quarter finals as part of Final Alliance 7 and partners with Wikwemikong’s 91˵s STEM and the Cybergnomes from New Lowell.”
“Manitoulin Metal also won the Sustainability Award for the event,” said Ms. Bauer. The award, she noted, “celebrates a team which has developed sustainable practices that focus on a ‘triple bottom line’ (i.e. People, Prosperity and Planet) to have a positive impact and achieve long-term continuity.”
