Fall 2027 expected completion date

GORE BAY—Along with an update on the new 64-bed long-term care home being constructed in Gore Bay, representatives of Belanger Salach Architecture and St. Joseph’s Health Centre outlined new housing that will be developed on the same property that is designated for staff of the new St. Joseph’s Lodge facility, updated the fundraising campaign and introduced a ‘Name the Neighbourhoods’ contest for the four ‘neighbourhoods’ in the new LTC home. 

“Today is really about community and looking toward the future,” said Jaime-Lynn Kalmikov, administrator of St. Joseph’s Lodge. “We wanted to bring everyone together to share some updates about the redevelopment of St. Joseph’s Lodge and the new staff housing, but also to talk about what this next chapter means for our residents, their families, our staff and the broader Manitoulin community.”

Alain Roy, architect with Belanger Salach went through the design plans. “The St. Joseph’s Lodge Long-Term Care Home will provide a modern, comfortable and accessible environment for residents, families, visitors and staff. It is being designed with a focus on resident comfort and quality of life, connection to community and nature, safe, inclusive and accessible spaces, welcoming spaces for all.”
