January 16, 1997 – February 21, 2026

Tyler Debassige, aka Monkey, began his earthly journey on Thursday, January 16, 1997. He arrived as a beautiful, brown baby with a full head of dark hair, a sacred gift placed into the loving arms of his family. From his first breath, he was cherished. Tyler carried a soft and generous spirit. He had a good heart and showed his kindness freely, especially in his love for animals and the ways he cared for those around him. As a teenager, he found belonging around the Big Drum. The sound of the Drum, the songs and the brotherhood of his friends grounded him. Those songs now carry his spirit and each time the Drum sounds, we will feel him there. He is the beloved son of Roxanne Debassige. He leaves behind his grandmother Rosemary Debassige, who he held close in his heart, his sister Madeline Debassige, and his brothers Tyrone Debassige and Dakota McLeod. He will be missed by his fur babies M&M, Shadow and Stripes. His love for his family ran deep and he often sought ways to help his loved ones, offering what he could in both big and small ways. Tyler is lovingly remembered by his auntie Natalie Debassige (Carl Antoine) and by his nieces Grace and Little Natalie who knew him as a proud and gentle uncle. He is also remembered by his cousins Austin, Brandon, Chelsea, Jace and many more relatives and friends who walked alongside him in this lifetime. In his spare time, Tyler enjoyed volunteering in his community and connecting with the people who he surrounded himself with. He’ll be remembered for his unique laughter that would echo through the crowd of loving people. Whether in laughter, in song or in quiet moments, he carried a spirit that left an imprint. Tyler’s spirit now journeys home to the Spirit World, where he will be welcomed by his great grandparents and his great aunties and uncles who have gone on before him. Though we grieve his physical absence, we know that love does not end. His spirit walks with his ancestors and his memory remains a bundle we carry with us. We will forever hold him in our hearts. Family and friends gathered at Saswaahns Spiritual Centre, M’Chigeeng, for visitation on Sunday, March 1, from 1 pm. Funeral service was Tuesday, March 3, at 11 am. Burial to follow in the M’Chigeeng 91˵ Cemetery. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Tyler Dwayne Darcy Debassige, please visit our floral store.
