MANITOULIN—Manitoulin Island is well represented in the United Church of Canada (UCC) new hymn book, ‘Then Let Us Sing.’

Jane Best, director of the Manitoulin Community Choir, wrote the music for one song in the new book, with Manitoulin writer and poet Chuc Willson providing the words to the song ‘God Spoke to the Darkness,’ a creation song.

“I never ever thought I would be writing the lyrics for a hymn,” acknowledged Mr. Willson, when contacted by The Expositor. “Jane had an orphan song of music, a melody, and she knew I write poetry, and she asked me if I would be interested in writing the lyrics to the song to submit to the United Church for consideration. It was interesting and fun to write the lyrics.”
