The 5th Annual Amish Pork Roast in The Slash on May 16 drew visitors from near and far to support the local Amish Parochial School initiative through food, a bake sale, and a popular auction.
THE SLASH—Under slightly cloudy skies and with the comforting smell of pork roast drifting through the countryside, people from all around gathered Saturday, May 16 for the 5th Annual Amish Pork Roast held on the picturesque Tehkummah farmstead of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Albrecht. Though the sun hid behind the clouds for much of the day, the weather did little to dampen spirits as neighbours, families and visitors from near and far came together for a day rooted in fellowship, hospitality and a budding community tradition for a good cause.
The quaint farm property itself painted a welcoming scene for hungry guests who had shown up for what was sure to be a great meal and to help support to local families of the area. The grounds were immaculately maintained, with various farm animals in pens, and well-kept gardens reflecting the simplicity and pride that are hallmarks of Amish life. Children laughed and played throughout the yard, many stopping to pet and hold bunnies that quickly became one of the day’s most popular attractions among younger visitors. Nearby, groups of friends and neighbours mingled freely, chatting and catching up while enjoying the peaceful rural setting.
Traditional Amish values were on full display throughout the event, not only in the craftsmanship and food, but in the warmth and kindness shown to every guest who arrived. Members of the Amish community mixed comfortably with visitors from across Manitoulin Island and beyond, creating an atmosphere that felt wholesome, welcoming and deeply community focused.
