ASSIGINACK—These past few weeks have proven to be a challenge for public works departments in municipalities across Northern Ontario as near-record snowfalls accompanied by periods of freezing rain have taxed both equipment and workers.

In recognition of the efforts of their public works team, the Municipality of Assiginack held a recognition event at noon on Friday, March 20 at the municipal arena.

“Our public works employees are a great asset to our township,” said Mayor Brenda Reid, who noted their efforts extend well beyond just those recent challenges. “They have kept our roads in great shape this winter through their hard work and perseverance. Not only do they keep our roads in great shape all year ‘round, but they also work hard to take care of the maintenance of the vehicles, grass cutting at various municipal properties, maintenance of the Bay Street Marina and Waterfront during the summer months and provide oversight to our landfill and staffing as required. They are a very important department in our township and I’d like to extend a huge thank you to them all.”
