COCKBURN ISLAND鈥擶hile at least one meteorite enthusiast is contemplating travelling to Cockburn Island to see if he can find any pieces of a meteorite that landed on Cockburn Island on June 19, local leaders have indicated they have not heard or seen of anyone having been successful so far in search attempts.

鈥淣ot to my knowledge,鈥 stated Brenda Jones, mayor of Cockburn Island last Thursday. 鈥淢embers of my family went for an ATV (all-terrain vehicle) ride on Teakettle Trail, which is prime area (for the location the meteorite was estimated to have landed) and didn鈥檛 find anything; although it is difficult because this is a dense bush area.鈥

鈥淲e have a council meeting (this) Wednesday and I鈥檓 sure the meteorite talk will come up,鈥 said Mayor Reeve Jones.
