HONORA Bay鈥擶hile travelling on Highway 540 near Honora Bay Road, an OPP Northeast Region Canine Handler came across a young fawn lying on the shoulder of the road in obvious distress. With extremely hot temperatures and the little deer struggling on the hot pavement, it was clear that this fawn needed some help.
The officer contacted some wildlife rehabilitation organizations, including Turtle Pond Wildlife Centre and Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary, to determine the best course of action. Following those discussions, the fawn was carefully placed in a kennel, and with the air conditioning turned up, the officer was able to ensure that this fawn made it to the sanctuary.
The most recent update indicates that the fawn is alive and taking fluids as it continues its recovery.
The Manitoulin OPP would like to thank the wildlife rehabilitation staff and volunteers who dedicate their time to caring for injured animals. We also appreciate the quick actions taken to make sure this young deer received the care it needed.
The Manitoulin OPP is wishing this little one a full recovery.
