Florence Osawamick won the junior title and Chef Joseph Shawana claimed the championship belt at the Odawa Mnis Master Chef Showdown during the Wiikwemkoong Arts and Music Festival.
WIIKWEMKOONG鈥擳he excitement was palpable during the Ontario Indigenous Tourism (ITO) Odawa Mnis Master Chef Showdown was held during the annual Wiikwemkoong Arts and Music Festival (WAMF). Eight chefs, four youth (each tutored by one of the adult competitors) and four adult chefs competed for the coveted title (and championship belt) of 鈥淥dawa Mnis Master Chef.鈥
The evening contest began with the four youth chefs pairing up with their 鈥渢utor,鈥 one of the four adult chefs as Wiikwemkoong Tourism manager Luke Wassegijig acted as master of ceremonies. Wiikwemkoong Tourism and ITO鈥檚 Indigenous Culinary Experience partnered on the competition and Mr. Wassegijig noted the winner of the Junior category would receive a Blackstone Grill and a $250 honorarium.
The excitement was palpable as Daisy, Lillianna, Crystal and Florence introduced themselves and their accompanying chef before settling down to business鈥攐pening their mystery boxes containing the ingredients they would use to create their plate.
